Abstract

Developmental problems in preschool-aged children often go undetected early due to a lack of
parental knowledge and skills in providing stimulation and conducting developmental
screening. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the "TANGKAS" intervention model
(Responsive Health and Stimulation for Early Childhood Growth and Development Screening)
in improving parental knowledge and skills related to stimulating and detecting growth and
development in children aged 60–72 months. The research design used was a quasi-experiment
with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The sample consisted of 44 parents,
divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention was delivered through
educational videos and training on using the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire
(KPSP). The results showed a significant improvement in parental knowledge and skills in the
intervention group compared to the control group. The TANGKAS intervention model proved
to be effective and relevant in both family and community settings, supporting independent and
sustainable efforts in developmental stimulation and screening. The findings also revealed that
improvements in parental skills did not always correlate with increased knowledge, indicating
the need for continuous practice-based learning approaches in health interventions. Future
research is recommended to adopt longitudinal and mixed-method designs with larger samples,
and to develop more varied, interactive, and contextually appropriate educational media.
